[50] Rio tweeting after the game agreeing with QPR fans

    Rio Ferdinand ‏ @rioferdy5

Good result for us today. I can see why the QPR fans would be unhappy with the penalty + red card against them.

[52] QPR left out Barton in case he got booked

    Mark Hughes

“Joey is on nine bookings and we didn’t want him to miss key games that we have coming up in the week.

“So I took the decision not to put him at risk. After the weekend the situation with suspensions is over so he can have a clear run with the matches ahead of us.”

[4] Fergie on an unwanted comfort zone

“I’m happy we’ve won. It’s the name of the game at the moment.

“But, to be honest, the sending-off gave us too much of a comfort zone. I don’t think we had a shot at goal in the first half. At least in the second we improved on that and had lots of shots on goal and a few chances. There was a step up in our general play.”

[5] Fergie on the amazing Paul Scholes

“It was a great strike at a great time for us. Paul has had a massive impact. We all know how good he is and what he brings to the pitch and the training ground.

“His performances, having come straight back into the team, have been amazing. He has just carried on and I'm sure he has a lot of games left in him yet.”

[15] Dogging expert and football mouthpiece Collymore has a dig at Ashley Young, says he should get a 5 match ban, and calls Ferdinand a hypocrite

Your Personalised MUFC mug to wind up ABUs

“I’m sick of people using this word ‘contact’. You can’t play professional football at any level and not have contact with your opponent. I never felt the need to go down like a sack of spuds. I wanted to stay on my feet because I wanted to score goals.

“Andy Carroll went down [against Newcastle] with no contact. He might have scored a goal. Ashley Young got a soft hand in the back and went down. He might have scored a goal.

“Within 30 seconds at Old Trafford that decision could have been turned around – Young gets a yellow card and Derry stays on. Why should Derry be punished for doing nothing? Why should QPR get punished for doing nothing wrong? But the person who does something wrong gets a penalty. How is that right?

“We should have a panel on a Monday morning [to review these decisions]. That way Derry gets an apology from the Premier League, he gets an apology from Manchester United and Young gets a five-match ban.

“But there’s no deterrent to stop players diving. That’s why it’s getting worse.”

“Rio Ferdinand tweeted after Andy Carroll went down at Newcastle that it’s an absolute disgrace when players go over like a lorry has hit them in the 18-yard box. Yesterday he said nothing [about Young]. You know what, he’s a hypocrite.

“And managers are hypocrites as well, because managers like Mark Hughes come out [at Old Trafford} and say it was a dodgy decision, etc.

“But if it’s Djibril Cisse who goes down in a couple of weeks time, do you know what he’ll say? He’ll say, ‘I didn’t see it’. So we’ve got to hammer managers as well.”
