Alex Ferguson on coping with nerves like the last 15 minutes against Fulham

“You saw in that last 15 minutes that a little bit of anxiety came in. We started giving the ball away. Getting over the finish line was all-important in that particular game. Rio Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick helped in that situation. If they were to lose their nerve, then we would be in trouble, but I don’t expect that. They’re well accustomed to it.”

Alex Ferguson admits he was nervous for the last ten minutes against Fulham, which is why he went to the touchline

"I was nervous when we were giving the ball away towards the end against Fulham on Monday night. We had a 10-minute period when everyone decided to give the ball away. I went to the touchline because my visibility was important at that time. It was just about getting ourselves over the line."

[32] Martin Jol doesn't care about what the Bitter one Vieira says about MUFC penalty decisions

"I've heard about it (wrong decisions) over the last two decades in England so that is a discussion you will get with any situation which is going against your team, and this was the situation for me because it was a clear-cut penalty.

"Everybody saw the occasion. I told the referee what I thought about it and expressed my opinion so for us it's probably the most important thing that we give a response (on Saturday), that is the only thing which matters to me.

"So for me it's not important what other people say about it.

"It's more important that we played that game, we had that situation and I feel that in hindsight we should have ended up with a draw there."

"We thought we'd turn things around against Swansea but we didn't and we had a difficult game away against Manchester United so after having three wins on the trot, we had three defeats and that's not what you want," said Jol, whose side are on 36 points after their opening 30 games.

"We want to get out of this situation because there were a lot of clubs winning their games last weekend, putting them on 39 or 40 points and that is exactly what we wanted so hopefully we don't have to wait too long to achieve that."

United's flag is deepest red, it shrouded all our Munich Dead

Till their limb's grew stiff and cold, their heart's blood dyed its every fold. So raise United's banner high, under its shade we'll live and die. Keep the faith and never fear, we'll always fly the red flag here. We'll never die, we'll never die, we'll never die, we'll never die. So keep the red flag flying high, cause Man United will never die.

[33] Fulham's Riise reflects back on facing MUFC

"We played compact when we needed to against Manchester United but also had some good play and really showed some character, as we always try to do, in fighting until the end so it was a good team performance."

"It's always disappointing to lose but at the end of the day not many people actually expected us to get something from the game.

"But we gave United a scare, we had a few chances, we played quite good football, especially in the first half, and we had a few chances in the second half so we left there with the feeling that we played some good stuff but still gutted that we lost the game because we don't like to lose.

"It was vital we put in a strong performance against United because, as I said, the last game we played badly at home against Swansea so we really wanted to play a good game on Monday, especially ahead of the game against Norwich."

"So we did that but we lost so we want to put things straight on Saturday and we'll be aggressive, be strong and show the fans what we can do again because we know we're good at home,"

More Alex Ferguson - I was going to go onto the pitch during the last ten minutes vs Fulham

"When we started giving that ball away I was nearly going to go on myself. We do so much work on possession in training but for a 10 minute period everyone gave the ball away. At that time, I think my visibility is important. Some of them might have tried to dodge out the other side of the ground at the end of the game. By then, I knew winning was the name of the game because we weren't going to score any more goals."
