Yes, Houston as you can well imagine has been a hive of activity with numerous events celebrating the 40th Anniversary. You look at the astronauts from the Apollo programme today, and in their old age, it's amazing to think that they were the vibrant young men who pioneered such marvellous achievements. I think the Moon programme is a done deal and it will go ahead, simply beacuse of its relevance to the Mars programme. There will always be struggles about funding but in the end, I think that the NASA people will get there.

yes, Triple still flys the vomit comet! He brought the Shuttle back from California a few weeks ago and that was quite an excitement thing for him. He'd never flown a 747 before! I posted his comments regarding the last leg of the journey from Alabama to KSC, and they were quite funny to be honest. They virtually ran out of runway on the take off! He's a great character and has visited various Astronomy clubs in UK to give talks.

    keep smiling mate

    Hi Bruce

Sorry it's taken me so long to write....somehow time gets caught up, one day leads to another and before you know it months have passed. Lots of things happened on a personal front since we last spoke. I went through the radium treatment through the summer for the prostate cancer... not very nice but very necessary... hated every minute of it... but fortunately evrything seems to be okay now... my monthly checks have been positive and if all goes well on the one in January, then they will put me on three month watch.

The book I have written has also kept me very occupied. It's finished now and we're just doing the fine tuning to it. It's been a lot of hard work believe me, and has kept me up a lot burning the midnight oil. Hopefully, we'll see it on the shelves in the next few months.

Haven't done any stargazing for a long time... didn't go out to McKavett for the star party in October... first one I have missed. Hopefully, next year I'll spend more time on astronomy. Yesterday the report on the Columbia accident came out and it was really sad. I lost a good friend in that.. Dave Brown... super guy and a great loss. My mate Denis actually retired from NASA on November 6th. What a going away party he had... some tremendous people turned up to bid him farewell.. the main one being Gene Krantz who told some very funny stories about Denis when he had him as a young intern. Denis and his wife have now moved up to Dallas so sadly, I won't see as much of them as I have done over the years.

Well, as far as the football goes I think that United are where they would like to be at this moment. Liverpool are a threat that's for certain but we have just got to concentrate on what we do and get the job done. The games are going to come thick and fast now so we'll need every member of the squad to be fit. I don't understand the criticism of berbatov by some of the lads on the forum... he's a quality player for me but the lad is still finding his feet at Old Trafford. certainly, without him we would not have got the 6 points from the Stoke and 'Boro games.... points that were absolutely vital.

Well mate, it's the last day of 2008 and I'd like to wish you all the very best for a happy, healthy, and peaceful 2009. As I have told you Bruce, whenever the opportunity rises you are more than welcome to come over and stay for a holiday. I won't be over in UK until early May and will be at the Arsenal game.... the Dinner is on the previous Friday... that's going to occupy a lot of my time now making sure all that gets organized. We have Nobby as our guest and I'm sure everybody will really enjoy his stories.

With best Wishes and Kindest regards

    Happy New Year

    Tom
