Ryan Giggs would still like to score a goal tonight and may well feature

“The perfect scenario is me coming on and scoring a goal, the winning goal. Hopefully everyone will be happy, but it doesn’t always work like that. We’ll have to wait and see what happens on the night. I’ll have to take that into consideration, but I also want to win the game as manager as well. I want to do what’s best to win the game and not just make room for me in the starting line-up or on the bench.”

Nemanja Vidic on his Manchester United career - working for the best and no regrets. Let’s give him a great send-off tonight

"I have great memories. To win five titles and the Champions League, I couldn't dream of winning that many titles and of playing with so many great players. I have learned a lot, not just on the pitch but off the pitch as well. I have been playing for the greatest manager ever, I believe. It was a great experience and this is going to be the best part of my career, these years with United. Manchester United make you feel part of the family. I have developed as a man at this club, it has been a great experience for me and my family. I have nothing to regret, I have given 100 per cent."

Juan Mata hopes we bounce back tonight

"I was unhappy with the Sunderland result, but the good thing is that on Tuesday we play again in Old Trafford. It's our last game at home this season and we want to have a decent farewell in front of our fans, with a good game and a victory. They have given us remarkable support throughout the last year and that shows the greatness of the club and the loyalty of our fans in the good and, in particular, the bad moments."

Ryan Giggs on advice from and facing old mate Steve Bruce

“I have spoke to Brucie and Ole, two ex-team-mates. One has been in management for 15 or so years and the other has not been in management so long. It was great as both gave me different bits of advice. Will I take any notice of Brucie? I won’t on Tuesday night! With Brucie, I spoke to him about picking the team. I said to the press that the hardest thing was leaving people out, so he gave me a bit of advice on that.”

"He can come and see out his days at the KC Stadium, playing in the Europa League. If he's available on a free, I'd take him. It's a difficult one to call. If it is Van Gaal for United, I'm sure he'll have his own opinions. But there's always going to be a place for Ryan, I'm sure, because he's been a great. I'm sure they'll find a space for him somewhere. I don't think he'll leave. He will be treated properly, I'm convinced of that. He'll have some role to play. They'll not mess him about, that's for sure."

[31] Giggs speaking after the game to the Old Trafford crowd
"We know it has been tough this season and over the years we have been spoiled with the success we have had.

"Your support this year has never changed, you have always supported the team and the staff. I'm sure in the coming years we will bring you more success.

"I would just like to say, keep supporting us, you have seen a little glimpse of the future, and this is what this club is about.

"It never stands still, we always give youth a chance and we try and play attractive football.

"Sometimes we don't win, but we give it our all. Keep supporting us and the good times will come back soon."

Posted on 07/05/2014 11:05:08 GMT
“I was pleased with the way we played after making five changes,”

“People like Quinn, Boyd and Koren reminded us of how good they are. Fryatt was the big plus point – scoring a goal like that will have him in really confident mood.

“I used the game to give people match time ahead of the biggest game in the club’s history in ten days’ time.

“Maynor Figueroa was back to somewhere near and in the first half I thought we were excellent defensively. They never really had a chance apart from the goal, which was horrible from our point of view because the one thing you think you can do when you go to Old Trafford is defend set-pieces.

“Eldin Jakupovic has come in for a start and I thought he did well too.

“Overall I was pleased. David De Gea pulled off a wonderful save to stop it becoming 2-2 and there looked to be a blatant foul on George Boyd in the build up to the second goal.”

Posted on 07/05/2014 11:08:11 GMT
"You want to win the game but, at the same time, you've got to celebrate Vida,"

"We have to celebrate the service he's given the club for so long, having achieved so much.

"He's a leader and one of the best defenders the club has had. It's sad that he's leaving because he'll be missed as he's a top player and an important part of the squad. Sometimes you've got to move on and we respect that.

"I'm sure he must have been touched by the reception he got from the crowd. He's a man of few words so I was a bit surprised to see him get on the microphone at the end.

"You could see he was touched and there was definitely some emotion there. He's got one game left but that was his last one at this special place. He'll be missed."

"It's a joke,"

"I didn't see the incident, but I have seen his leg.

"It is the second time it has happened to him this season and it's not great to see. It's terrible, his leg.

"He needs protecting, he is a brilliant player, he is exciting and the authorities need to stamp down on it, whether that can happen now but it was bad.

"I have not seen the stamp but I have seen his leg and it is bad. The cut goes from his knee to his ankle."

[16] David May on Giggs the player (http://www.rednews.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=148070)
Posted on 07/05/2014 11:22:18 GMT
"I think he is still good enough. There have been many games this season where he has been United's best player, even at the age of 40.

"Maybe the manager could pick and choose his games. Whatever happens, it would be a loss to the Premier League and Man United if Giggsy does decide to retire because he has been absolutely incredible over the years."

[17] David May on the importance of the yoof (http://www.rednews.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=148071)
Posted on 07/05/2014 11:22:47 GMT
"There is young talent at the club, of course there is, but I feel they do also need to bring in experienced players to bring United back to where they deserve and where they should be.

"The main thing is that United keep doing what they are doing, keep producing the young kids. Whether it's Van Gaal or whether it's someone else, United have a tradition of doing that.

"With Financial Fair Play coming into it, it's important that the youth players come in and contribute to the first team, as they have in the last few years."

Cledwyn Ashford, who coached Tom for Flintshire Schoolboys

“Not many players play two years running for Flintshire but he was one of those who did.

“He was a very quiet lad but he always had confidence on the ball. Tom had great skills, he loved to take people on and had pace to burn.

“You could tell he was going to go far and be a special player. He had the ability to make a difference.

“I’m so pleased for him, it’s a fantastic achievement for the lad. What a great honour for him to have one of the greatest players to play for Manchester United and Wales, who is also the manager, to have that faith in him.

“I thought he played extremely well and I knew he wouldn’t be fazed by it at all. I don’t think he’s far from a first team call-up for Wales either.”

“I feel like I can deal with the physicality and pace of the game. I just need to try to get as many games as possible under my belt for the experience. If you’re getting on in the club, you have to be progressing so obviously scoring for every age group is a good sign. I’ve got where I am now but I have to kick on.”

“It was a great feeling, you can’t compare it to anything else,”

”The first goal was just sheer euphoria and then the second was just a great experience. The ground is a lot different without 75,000 people, but just to play here even in front of a small crowd for the Under-21s is still a great experience to play on such a ground. With all the fans here tonight it was even better.”

"He came on earlier than we expected because of Jonah’s injury but he didn’t put a foot wrong like he’s done over the last eight years. He’s been a brilliant player for us and a brilliant defender."

[33] Giggs on a memorable night for him, because of the United youngsters (http://www.rednews.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=148094)
Posted on 07/05/2014 19:39:46 GMT
“Obviously I managed to get on the pitch but I think the main memory will be the youngsters coming on and doing so well. Manchester United always give young players a chance and it’s up to them to take it. They certainly did that tonight.

“I wasn’t happy with Saturday’s result [against Sunderland] and the performance. I wasn’t angry, I was just gutted after doing so well the week before. I just wanted to freshen things up a bit. The fans recognise young players and will give them a chance if they make a mistake and they took their chance.

"Michael Keane, Tom and James have been at the club since they were nine and Adnan Januzaj since he was 16. It was brilliant to see and they deserve all the plaudits.
